The following
Terms and Conditions must be read in conjunction with Self Drive Pty Ltd terms
and conditions. Click here to

Reservations
requests are only accepted on the basis that those terms and conditions, and the
terms and conditions for the vehicle hire which appear below, have been read,
understood and agreed to.
TOURISM
HOLDINGS TERMS AND CONDITIONS
This
document contains a summary of some of the Rental Conditions. For full detailed
Conditions refer to the Rental Agreement on pick-up. Please note all prices quoted
in this document are in Australian dollars. Rates and Conditions quoted are subject
to change without notice.
RENTAL
DURATION
Minimum
rental period for one-way rentals is 7 days, this excludes multiple rentals, which
are subject to a 5 day minimum rental period. Shorter hires are available on application
only.· Late Pick-up or early return of vehicle does not entitle the hirer
to any refund of the unused portion of the rental.· Late returns will be
charged on a per day basis. Failure to obtain authorisation for a rental extension
will result in a daily rental fee of AU$150 in addition to the daily rate.·
CAMPERVANS
· Minimum rental period is 5 days. Minimum rental period is subject to
change during peak periods.· Rental days are calculated on a calendar day
basis. When calculating the number of days a vehicle is rented, the day of pick-up
is counted as day one of the rental, regardless of pick-up time. The day of the
vehicle's return is counted as the final day of the rental.
4WD
CAR · Minimum rental period is 3 days. Minimum rental period is subject
to change during peak periods.· Rental days are calculated on a 24hr basis.·
Britz allows
a grace period of 59 minutes before the hirer is liable for late return charges.
Late return fees are applicable as follows:

1 hour late, one third of the daily rate will apply
- -
2 hours late, two thirds of the daily rate will apply
- -
3 hours late, one full day rate will apply
ONE-WAY
RENTALS
One-way rentals are available between all branch locations. A
One-way rental fee of AU$220 is charged, this is in addition to the Broome surcharge
fee if applicable.
MULTIPLE
RENTALS
Should a hirer have more than one rental (multiple rentals) then
these rentals can be combined to qualify the hirer for our long term rate. Campervan
hire in Australia & New Zealand for both Britz and Maui, can be combined
to qualify if travel is within a 3 month period.e.g. One 14 day rental plus one
7 day rental qualifies for the 21 day rate.
For
pick-up and drop-off on the same day, the daily rental charge for the last day
of the 1st rental will be charged, and the daily charge for first day of the subsequent
rental will not be charged. This will also apply to the Excess Reduction charge,
only within the same country.
The one-way fee (if applicable) and charges for
additional hire equipment (tables, chairs, baby seats) and additional extras (PGO,
PCO etc) will be charged per vehicle rented.
CHANGE
OF DROP-OFF DESTINATION
If the hirer wishes to change the drop-off destination
after the rental has commenced, they must first obtain authorisation from the
destination branch. Subject to the change being approved, an additional charge
of up to AU$500 will apply.
RENTAL
EXTENSION
If the hirer wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they
must first obtain authorisation from the Reservations Centre in Melbourne. This
is subject to availability. The extra cost of an extended rental must be paid
by credit card over the telephone on confirmation of the rental extension. Failure
to obtain authorisation will result in a daily fee of AU$150 in addition to the
daily rate.
TRANSFERS
Britz
clients will need to make their own way from the airport to the Britz branch,
at their own cost.
RENTALS
IN BROOME
An additional remote location fee of AU$450 applies to all rentals
picking up or dropping off (or both) in Broome. Only one remote location fee is
charged per vehicle. This is in addition to the one-way fee if applicable.
AIRPORT
CONCESSION FEE
An airport concession fee may be charged for hires with
pick-up or drop-off from airport locations. An airport pick-up fee of AU$16.50
per hire (Campervans) or 4% of the total hire cost (per 4WD Car) will apply for
hires with pick-up at Hobart airport. This fee is subject to change.
FOR
YOUR PROTECTION
Personal Injury is covered in most cases through Registration
Third Party Insurance. We strongly recommend that all people travelling in Australia
take out Personal Travel Insurance.
All
vehicles are insured for the damage to the vehicle or to the property of a Third
Party. The hirer is responsible for the first AU$5,000 ("the excess")
of the cost of damage to Third Party property or to the rented vehicle, including
single vehicle accident, windscreen and tyre damage, towing and recovery costs,
theft, fire, break-in, vandalism. This also includes the cost of the daily rental
for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs (demurrage). The
excess applies in respect of each claim, not rental.
The
excess is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time
the accident report is completed, not at the completion of the rental. The excess
will be refunded if we are successful in recovering the cost of the damages from
the Third Party. Please note that Third Party Claims can take months to resolve.
Please see the 'Exclusions' section below, whereby all Excess Reduction cover
will be made void.
This
AU$5,000 excess can be reduced, in most circumstances, by the purchase of Excess
Reduction Option 1 or Excess Reduction Option 2. Excess Reduction Option 1 Vehicle
Cost per day
Excess
reduced to AU$2,500 by paying extra AU$20/day (max charge AU$1000) -2WD &
AU$25/day (max charge AU$1,250) -4WD
With
Excess Reduction Option 1 the hirer is responsible for the first AU$2,500 of ANY
ACCIDENT COST of damage to Third Party property or to the rented vehicle, including
single vehicle accident, windscreen and tyre damage, towing and recovery costs,
theft, fire, break in or vandalism. This also includes the cost of the daily rental
rate for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs (demurrage).
The excess applies in respect of each claim, not rental. Please see the 'Exclusions'
section below, whereby all Excess Reduction cover will be made void.
Excess
Reduction Option 2 Excess reduced to $0 by paying extra AU$38/day (max charge
AU$1,900) - 2WD and Excess reduced to $440 by paying extra AU$47 (max charge AU$2,350)
-4WD
With Excess
Reduction Option 2 the hirer is responsible for the first AU$0 (2WD vehicles)
or AU$440 (4WD vehicles) of ACCIDENT COST of damage to Third Party property or
to the rented vehicle, including single vehicle accident, towing and recovery
costs, theft, fire, break in or vandalism. This also includes the cost of the
daily rental rate for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs
(demurrage). The excess applies in respect of each claim, not rental. This DOES
NOT include underbody /overhead damage to own vehicle a

see the 'Exclusions' section below, whereby all Excess Reduction cover will be
made void.
Premium
Cover Option (PCO) Where PCO is taken out at a flat rate of AU$40 per rental (2WD)
and AU$120 per rental (4WD) in addition to Excess Reduction Option 2, the hirer
will not have to pay any excess at all for ANY DAMAGE to the vehicle or property
of a third party.
EXCLUSIONS:
Standard Excess, Excess Reduction Option 1 & 2 and PCO do not cover:
1.
Any water related damage, which includes but is not limited to:a) any vehicle
submersionb) creek or river crossingc) driving through low plain flooded areasd)
beach driving
2. Personal belongings: we recommend the hirer does not leave
valuables in the vehicle and that they take out personal insurance.
3. All
Excess Reduction is void if the terms of the Rental Agreement are breached. The
hirer will be responsible for the total cost of any damage. This will also include
any damage caused by willful misconduct (e.g. sitting or standing on the bonnet
or roof of the vehicle) and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
4.
The incorrect use of fuel (fuel being diesel or petrol). The hirer will be responsible
for any associated cost.
5. The cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle which
has become bogged, regardless of the Excess Reduction Package taken.
6. The
cost to replace keys which have become lost, or retrieval of keys which have been
locked in a vehicle.
VEHICLE
SECURITY DEPOSIT
On
pick-up of the vehicle, a Vehicle Security Deposit is payable. The amount is determined
by the Protection Package selected (refer to the "FOR YOUR PROTECTION"
section).
If
you do not take Excess Reduction Option 1 or Excess Reduction Option 2, the Security
Deposit is AU$5,000 payable by cash, Traveller's Cheques, or credit cards.
Should
the Deposit be paid by credit card, the amount will be debited to your account
immediately. Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in
the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. Britz does not accept
any liability for variances up or down. Should the Deposit be paid by cash, a
cash qualification process will apply.
If
Excess Reduction Option 1 has been taken the Security Deposit is AU$2,500 payable
by cash, Traveller's Cheques or credit card. If paid by credit card, the amount
will be debited to your account immediately. Should the Deposit be paid by cash,
a cash qualification process will apply.
If
Excess Reduction Option 2 has been taken the Security Deposit is AU$220 (2WD vehicles)
or AU$440 (4WD vehicles), payable by cash, Traveller's Cheques or credit card.
If paid by credit card, an imprint of the renter's card will be taken. Should
the Deposit be paid by cash, a cash qualification process will apply.
The
Security Deposit is fully refundable provided the vehicle is returned on time,
to the correct location, undamaged, with a clean interior and with full fuel tanks
(Fuel being petrol, diesel and LPG gas). Except where the customer has purchased
PGO and/or PFO, failure to return the vehicle with full petrol, diesel and/or
LPG tanks will result in refill charges, which will be advised upon return of
the vehicle.
Britz
reserve the right to retain a AU$125 soiling fee if the vehicle is not returned
with the interior in a clean condition and 4 wheel drive vehicles free of mud.
The toilet and waste water tank (if applicable) must be emptied prior to the return
of the vehicle, or an additional AU$125 soiling fee will be retained.
INFRINGEMENTS
We
reserve the right to charge the hirer for any speeding, parking or tollway fines,
associated administration costs and/or accidents including third party property
damage not reported on return of the vehicle. The administration fee per fine
will be AU$60.
EXCHANGE
RATE / CURRENCY VARIATIONS
All credit card transactions are conducted in
Australian dollars. Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance
in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. Britz does not
accept any liability for variances up or down.
CREDIT
CARDS
If a credit card is presented as payment, the credit card holder
will be jointly and severally liable as a customer.
LICENCE
A full resident country drivers licence, held for a least one year, is
to be presented at the time of rental. If the licence is not in an English format,
an international drivers licence is also required.
AGE
RESTRICTIONS
Drivers must be 21 years of age or over. A medical certificate
stating that the customer is fit to drive the vehicle they have booked for the
duration of the hire is required for drivers over the age of 75.
KITCHEN
KIT
The Kitchen Equipment (crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils) for all
2WD and 4WD campervans is included in the daily rental rate at no extra cost.
ROAD
RESTRICTIONS·
2 Wheel Drive campervans can only be driven on sealed/bitumen
roads. The only exception to this are access roads to recognised campgrounds.·
4 Wheel Drive vehicles can be driven on recognised unsealed tracks.·
4
Wheel Drive vehicles may only travel to the following areas with the written permission
of Britz: Simpson Desert, Strzelecki Track, Gunbarrel Highway, Cape York, the
Bungle Bungles, Oodnadatta Track, Birdsville Track, Tanami Track and Gibb River
Road. Permission being granted is subject to weather and road conditions. Our
vehicles are not permitted on the Canning Stock Route, the Lost City in Litchfield
Park and the Telegraph Road section of the road to Cape York.
Britz
reserves the right at its sole discretion to restrict vehicle movements in certain
areas due to adverse road or weather conditions, and the distance to nominated
destinations in relation to the length of the hire period.
ON-ROAD
ASSISTANCE
Any problems associated with the vehicle, including equipment
failure, must be reported to Britz as soon as possible, and within 24 hours in
order to give Britz the opportunity to rectify the problem during the rental.
Failure to do so will compromise any claims for compensation. We do not accept
liability for any claims submitted after this period.
REPAIRS
Repairs
up to AU$100 may be effected without authorisation and will be reimbursed. For
amounts over AU$100, Britz will need to be informed in advance. Repairs will be
approved provided the hirer was not directly responsible for the damage. Receipts
must be submitted for any repair or the claim will not be paid.
CHANGE
OF VEHICLE
Should the vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen
circumstances, Britz reserve the right to substitute an alternative vehicle without
prior notification and at no extra cost. This shall not constitute a breach of
contract and does not entitle the hirer to a refund.
VEHICLE
CATEGORY
Vehicles cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle
category.
VOLUNTARY
DOWNGRADE
Should the hirer decide to take a lesser vehicle than booked
they will not be entitled to any refund.
CANCELLATION
FEE
The cancellation fees are:·
- If
cancelled up to 60 days prior to pick-up No Fee·
- If cancelled from 60 to 30 days prior to pick-up 20% of Gross Rental ·
- If cancelled 29 to 7 days prior to pick-up 50% of Gross Rental ·
- If
cancelled within 6 days prior to pick up or No-Show 100% of Gross Rental·
- If vehicle is returned early for any reason whatsoever No refund available
AMENDMENT
FEE
An amendment fee of AU$50 per amendment is charged when a change to
an existing booking is made. This applies but is not limited to changing the vehicle
type, reducing the number of rental days, changing pick-up dates or changing the
pick-up or drop-off location made 14 days or less before pick-up. Where the number
of rental days is being extended, the amendment fee will not apply.
TAXES
A
charge of 2.5% of the total cost will be levied to cover state government taxes,
duties and associated cost. This is payable upon collection of the vehicle and
applies to the following Australian branches. Adelaide, Alice Springs, Darwin
and Sydney.
IMPORTANT
Britz
reserves the right to refuse any rental at its discretion.
ANIMALS
No
animals are permitted in our vehicles, excluding guide dogs.
DISCLAIMER
OF LIABILITY
The
information that we provide on our website is supplied to us by Tourism Holdings
and is always subject to change without notice, therefore we cannot accept responsibility
for any changes beyond our control.
Upon
collection of your vehicle you enter into a direct contract with the car rental
company and in the event of any issues, problems, queries, concerns or complaints
they should be directed to the individual car rental companies. However Self Drive
offers a back up and customer service facility and we will assist you in any way
we possibly can to resolve any complaints or overcharges you should not incur. |
