Day 1 (Suggestion Only):
Arrive in Alice Springs
Arrive
in Alice Springs, pick up your campervan from the depot and begin exploring some
of the many attractions within Alice Springs. The local Tourist Association has
developed 6 discovery trails around Alice Springs centred on themes. Choose and
explore one or more trails depending on your interests. Themes include Aboriginal
Culture, Transportion and Communications which specifically includes the School
of the Air (the worlds largest classroom) and the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
In the afternoon whether its part of one of the themes you've chosen or not, visit
the internationally recognised and must do Desert Wildlife Park. A
world class facility showcasing an array of arid wildlife and flora (without doubt one of the worlds finest nature parks). Your
4WD allows you to explore some of the specific 4WD attractions around Alice Spring
like Trephina Gorge, N'Dhala Gorge and the Ewaninga Rock Carvings.
Inclusions: Campervan Hire,
Exclusive 4WD Campervan Travel pack with detailed maps, travel information and recommendations on what to see and where to camp
(received before you travel so you can plan &/or ask us any questions). |
|
|
|
Day 2 (Suggestion Only):
West MacDonnell Ranges:
A
free day to relax and explore more of Alice Springs or alternatively take the
opportunity to explore the spectacular gorges and gaps of the West MacDonnell
Ranges at your own pace. The road is bitumen all the way till Ormiston Gorge and
Glen Helen Lodge but requires 4WD to visit Redbank Gorge and to drive around to
Palm Valley. Choose from as many of the 9 attractions that you can fit in depending on your fitness level and interests. All of the
attractions are unique and stunning in their own right however we recommend you
don't miss Stanley Chasm, Ormiston Gorge and Redbank Gorge. After this spectacular
day spend the night back
at Glen Helen Resort campground or we recommend driving around to Palm Valley
and spending the night in the Finke National Park (toilets and hot showers available).
Inclusions: Campervan Hire,
Exclusive 4WD Campervan Travel pack with detailed maps, travel information and recommendations on what to see and where to camp
(received before you travel so you can plan &/or ask us any questions). |
|
|
|
Day 3 (Suggestion Only):
West MacDonnells to Wattarka (Kings Canyon)
Spend part of today driving the 300km from Glen to Kings Canyon. Your 4WD allows
you to drive on the Mereenie Loop road direct to Kings Canyon rather than back
to Alice and around. You also can visit Palm Valley, Tnorala Gosse Bluff and Redbank
Gorge (all 4WD only) . Depending on what time you arrive at Kings Canyon exploring
the shear cliff walls at Sunset. Mid to late morning begin the drive to Kings
Canyon therefore arriving mid to late afternoon and therefore cooler part of the
day. Begin exploring parts of the shear cliff walls of Kings Canyon with the stunning
impact of an Outback Sunset.
Inclusions: Campervan Hire,
Exclusive 4WD Campervan Travel pack with detailed maps, travel information and recommendations on what to see and where to camp
(received before you travel so you can plan &/or ask us any questions). |
|
|
|
Day 4 (Suggestion Only):
Wattarka (Kings Canyon) to Uluru (Ayers Rock)
An
early morning start gives you the opportunity to do the complete Kings Canyon
walk during the coolest part of the day (subject to health and fitness) Spend
part of the day driving from Wattarka to Uluru along Luritja Rd and Lasseter highway.
A late morning departure allows you to arrive and settle into Ayers Rock Resort
in a relaxed state. Along the way stop over at Kings Creek Station a working cattle/camel
station with facilities and the opportunity to experience the outback either by
quad (4 wheel motorbike), helicopter or camel. You might even try one of their
famous Kings Creek camel burgers for lunch. In the afternoon arrive at Yulara
and your first glimpse at what can only be described as breathtaking Uluru. We
recommend you drive to the sunset observation area and be amazed by the famous
sunset on Uluru.
Sunsets cause
changes to its colour from browns though oranges, reds to finally grey.
Inclusions: Campervan Hire,
Exclusive 4WD Campervan Travel pack with detailed maps, travel information and recommendations on what to see and where to camp
(received before you travel so you can plan &/or ask us any questions). |
|
|
|
Day 5 (Suggestion Only):
Exploring Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park:
A
magnificent day exploring the Kata-Tjuta National Park. Spend the time driving
or walking around the base of the rock exploring the many aspects of this amazing
monolith. A trip to Uluru is also about experiencing and understanding its cultural
& spiritual significance. Both Uluru and Kata Tjuta have great cultural significance
for the Anangu traditional landowners, Self Discover or take one of the guided
tours that inform about the local flora and fauna, bush foods and the Aboriginal
Dreamtime stories of the area. In
the afternoon visit Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) a collection of weathered red domes,
located 50 km from Ayers Rock along a sealed road. There are two formal walks
at Kata Tjuta and both are recommended. Many people believe Kata Tjuta is even
more spectacular than the Rock.
Inclusions: Campervan Hire,
Exclusive 4WD Campervan Travel pack with detailed maps, travel information and recommendations on what to see and where to camp
(received before you travel so you can plan &/or ask us any questions). |
|
|
|
Day 6 (Suggestion Only):
Uluru - Alice Springs:
An
early wake up to experience sunrise and explore any of the attractions, walks
or tours you may be interested in. A peaceful 1 hr camel ride over big red sand
dunes in cool clear morning air to watch the sunrise over Uluru & Kata Tjuta
is a great experience. Alternatively begin the day with a Guided Aboriginal tour
begining at sunrise with a short tour at the base of Uluru and a restaraunt breakfast
at the culture centre. Learn the meaning and history of Uluru as passed down from
ancestors on the Liru Walk. After completing your morning adventure return begin
the 450km drive back towards Alice Springs. Your
departure time will depend on the attractions you want to see from these two locations
and along the Lasseter and Stuart Highways. Your 4WD gives you access to Rainbow Valley, Henbury meteorites and
Owen Springs.
