Day 1 (Suggestion Only): Auckland to Rotorua 237 kms
Day 1 Arrive in Auckland and pick up your vehicle. Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city and is situated between two enormous harbours dotted with 48 extinct volcanic cones. As you drive down the southern motorway, suburban scenery gradually gives way to the farmland of South Auckland. The city of Hamilton is carved into two by the mighty Waikato River. Attractions include gardens, riverboat cruising and a giant free flight aviary. Excellent restaurants and cafes can be found at the southern end of the city’s main street. Next stop is Cambridge where you can shop for antiques and art, or simply enjoy the splendid parks and gardens. Arriving at Rotorua in the late afternoon and settle in at your accommodation.

Eleven beautiful lakes surround the geothermal town of Rotorua, which is great if you like to hike, bike, fish or kayak. The Waitomo Caves district is famous for its subterranean splendour.
