Things
to See and Do The
valley's main feature is sandstone bluffs and cliffs which, during the day leave
you wondering about the claim that this is one of the highlights of a visit to
the Centre. The reason becomes apparent in the early morning and late afternoon
sun. The sun transforms the scenery as rainbow-like bands of colour are emitted
off the sandstone. The Reserve is also rich in Aboriginal carvings and ochre
paintings, scattered artefacts and stone tools. There are unmarked walking tracks
around the bluff and walks that lead to other areas in the James ranges. The area
is fragile and sacred to Aboriginals so visitors are asked to be especially careful
and diligent. Access to the reserve is via an unsealed road by 4WD because of
some very sandy patches. Camping is permitted in designated areas and facilities
include barbecue areas and pit toilets. |
